Want to help out?

DHR is made up entirely of volunteers who prepare, produce and present live programmes up to four nights a week.

Our live programming includes ‘Listeners Choice’, when the team goes out onto the wards to meet the patients and collect requests. These requests are then broadcast that evening.

All volunteers receive training to be presenters or producers. Volunteers should be over 18 years of age, and able to commit to help out one evening per week. For more information on how to become a member of the DHR Team contact Mike Hardy on 0191 333 2168 or email mike@dhradio.org.uk. Each volunteer has to complete a number of forms (including CRB) and this aspect is handled by the Hospital Trust.

We ask possible volunteers once they been to the studios for a look around to come back for a ward visit with an experienced presenter. This visit is to get a feel for how we go about speaking to the patients and staff to obtain their music requests for the programme. Once we have enough for an hour show we go back to the studio and demonstrate how a programme is put together.
