Micky Young

Micky is one of our newest presenters and is part of the Tuesday night team.

During the day, Micky is a telecomunications engineer for Openreach and operates a 4×4 mobile elevating working platform. He helps to install and repair copper phone lines along with fibre optic cables.

Before working for Openreach, Micky was in the British Army where he served for just under 15 years. He used to do radio and satellite communications and then moved into bomb disposal before leaving in 2012. He has served all over the world including Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as lots more places on training exercises.

Micky was very lucky to get a secondment to the British Antarctic Survey in 2002 and spent close to 8 months working in Antarctica supporting science and research providing communications to aircraft and field parties.

Micky is married to Claire and they have 2 boys. When not in work, Micky is a very keen football fan and follows his home town, Esh Winning, and Wealdstone. He follows Newcastle United but he prefers non league football. He is also a FA qualified referee and also the Chairman for Esh Winning CCFC (Sunday League side).

Micky is a big music fan and helped and supported local bands in the past including Racine and Offpeak. He enjoys a wide selection of music but admits to being a big Oasis fan.
